Schemes for Improvement of Breed of Bovine Population

Veterinary Services including veterinary infrastructure and facilities for disease diagnosis, epidemiology, monitoring & surveillance for animal diseases are provided by respective State Governments. However, Department supplements the efforts of State/UT Governments by providing financial assistance through namely ‘Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH &DC)’ Scheme to develop adequate facilities and veterinary infrastructure for animal disease diagnosis, reporting, epidemiology, monitoring and early warning system of livestock diseases in the country. 
Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries is implementing following schemes for improvement of breed of bovine population in country: 
• National Programme for Bovine Breeding(NPBB) 
• Rashtriya Goukul Mission(RGM) – part of NPBB
• Establishment of National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre
• National Dairy Plan-I
• Central Cattle Breeding Farms
• Central Frozen Semen Production and Training Institute
• Central Herd Registration Scheme
In addition, breed improvement of small ruminants is being taken under National Livestock Mission. In order to enhance availability of feed and fodder, Department is implementing the sub-mission on Feed and Fodder Development under National Livestock Mission.
