Seventy percent of the villagers of Koynara Toli village in Bishunpur Block of Gumla district in Jharkhand are now using only organic manure in their fields. In this village, with a total population of around six hundred people, there are some 115 farmers.
In the year 2000, Ekal started its operations in this village with its One Teacher School. In 2004 Ekal Village Development team brought mother culture from Assam and the work of making organic manure started. Till this time farmers were using only chemical fertilisers in this village. Ekal started giving training for making of pits to make organic manure with earthworms. Initially five to seven farmers took the training and started using this manure in their fields. Their produce increased and even the quality improved. Seeing the success of these farmers, others in the village also started adopting this process and today about 70% villagers here are using only organic manure.
झारखंड प्रांत के गुमला जिला अंतर्गत विशुनपुर प्रखण्ड स्थित कोयनार टोली गाँव में 70% किसान जैविक खेती कर धान पैदा करते हैं। कोयनार टोली गाँव में लगभग 115 किसान हैं। गाँव की जनसंख्या लगभग 600 है। ज्यादातर उरांव, बड़ाईक जनजाति के लोग यहां रहते हैं।
इस गाँव में वर्ष 2000 में एकल विद्यालय प्रारम्भ हुआ। वर्ष 2004 में एकल ग्राम विकास के द्वारा जैविक खेती के लिए मदर कल्चर, असम से लाया गया था। इस गाँव में मदर कल्चर का केंचुआ खाद बनाने में उपयेाग किया गया। 2004 तक इस गाँव में रासायनिक खेती ही मूल रूप से होती थी। एकल के द्वारा गाँव में जैविक खेती हेतु जैविक पीट बनाने का प्रशिक्षण दिया गया। गाँव के किसान सुरेश बड़ाईक, लालमोहन भगत, रविलाल बड़ाईक आदि, 5 से 7 किसान प्रशिक्षण में भाग लेने गए थे। एकल अभियान द्वारा दिये गये जैविक पीट बनाने के प्रशिक्षणोपरांत इन लोगों ने केंचुआ खाद अपने घरों में बनाना प्रारम्भ किया। पाँच किसान जैविक पीट लगाने लगे। इस पीट से उत्पादित जैविक खाद का धान, आलू, प्याज, सब्जी, खेती में प्रयोग करने लगे। इससे इस गाँव के किसानों को सब्जी उत्पादन हो या धान, सब में जहाँ एक ओर उत्पाद बढ़ा वहीं दूसरी ओर गुणवत्ता भी बढ़ गई। गाँव के अन्य किसान भी बाद में जैविक खाद का प्रयोग प्राथमिक तौर पर करने लगे। जैविक खाद के लाभ से प्रभावित होकर सभी किसानों ने स्वयं जैविक पीट बनाना शुरू कर दिया। इस प्रकार देखते ही देखते गाँव के 70% किसान जैविक खेती करने लगे।
