The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will introduce some new subjects like artificial intelligence, early childhood care education and yoga in its curriculum from the 2019-2020 academic session, reads a circular issued by the board recently.
“The decision to introduce artificial intelligence as a skill subject was taken at a recent meeting of the board’s governing body. It was decided that the subject would be introduced from classes 8, 9 and 10 as a skill subject,” a member of the board’s governing body said adding that it would be the optional 6th subject.
Artificial intelligence is the ability of a machine to think, learn and perform tasks such as visual perception, speech recognition and decision-making skills and is being widely recognised as the power that will fuel the future global digital economy.
Similarly over the last few decades, there has been an upsurge in the prevalence of yoga and early childhood education. Yoga will teach a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body whereas early childhood education will teach children of nursery and kindergarten classes happy education, the circular reads.
