We often here of how government schools are ill-equipped and the education being provided is so bad. But instead of just criticising this when one starts thinking of solutions changes do come.
Today's Indian Express gives a story by its reporter Alifiya Khan, which talks of how the local community contributed in making government schools provide quality education with latest technology. Report says that a whopping 216 crores were raised by school teachers from the public between July 2015 and December 2016. This money was utilised for revamping class rooms, building new toilets and on digital initiatives.
It is said that all this started happening when the "Pragat Shailkshanik" programme was launched two years back in the state. In this programme it was made compulsory to report of public participation. And this particular aspect made teachers actively reach out to the community - encourage them to contribute and also seek corporate help.
Dhule district is one example which has 100% digital classrooms in government schools. The report also cites example of how children from private schools are joining back in government schools.
