16 former women convicts of Hyderabad's Chanchalguda prison will start a new life at an all-women petrol pump where they will work for a pay of Rs 12,000 per month.
The prisons department had undertaken a programme called 'Maha Parivartan' to bring about a change in prisoners so that they can start their life afresh and do not get back to a life of crime. The 16 released convicts will work in two shifts at the petrol station. Apart from handling fuel refill stations, the women will handle cash also which is to be deposited with prison officials on a daily basis.
This move follows the massive success of one petrol pump at Chanchalguda run by convicts. The move is aimed at helping them live a life of dignity without returning to a life of crime. Director General of prisons V K Singh recruited the 16 former women convicts for the job.
This new petrol bunk operated by the all women crew is to be opened on Friday.
May be other states also have similar programmes to rehabilitate former convicts.
