‘Jan Aushadhi’ is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in association with Central Pharma Public Sector Undertakings, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses. Jan Aushadhi stores have been set up to provide generic drugs, which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs.
The government has made plans to open 3000 such stores by next year. Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana, the chain of such stores is fast spreading across the country. Presently 336 Jan Aushadhi Medical Stores are fully operational spread in 23 states and UTs. In these stores more than 450 medicines and 150 other products are available.
