This is the story of how an initiative of a voluntary organisation has changed the environment in one Mumbai slum. Usually the slums are very dirty, but not this one. Here, the walls are all painted and the complete look has changed. This looks more like Italy's Positano and has become a tourist attraction. Passers by have even stopped spitting on these painted walls.
This voluntary organisation is called 'Chal Rang De' and it tied up with the Metro and paint manufacturer Snowcem Paints to help in the programme. The organisation first motivated the residents for a go-ahead, created a website, got volunteers and in two weeks finished painting 175 walls in the slum.
Such initiatives can be replicated elsewhere too and add to the efforts of Swachha Bharat.
