Here is a story of a auto driver who foresaw four years back what PM Narendra Modi is talking about today. This is in respect of the demonetisation announced on 8th November and subsequent action being taken on less cash economy.
This interview by Rasheeda Bhagat of a Chennai auto driver Annadurai, 31, is so inspiring. Rasheeda Bhagat is the editor of Rotary News and this story has been published in the December issue.
Annadurai talks of how he placed newspapers in his auto so that the commuters can spend their time purposefully. Later, when he realised that not many were reading the newspapers and were busy with their mobiles, he provided free connectivity - and all this in 2011. When he saw his customers struggling to give him the requisite amount because of problems of change he got a swipe machine.
Among the many quotes of Annadurai published in Rotary News here is a masterpiece : "When my clients boarded, I gave them the credit card option, and told them it was not only to save them the hassle of withdrawing cash, it was towards a digital India and open transactions and to eliminate black money and corruption. This is the only way we will get rid of corruption. To prevent people dodging taxes, we must have open transactions."
Isn't he a role model worth celebrating? writes Rasheeda. In absolute agreement.
