We only hear of news of the increasing percentage being scored by students in Boards and then hear of the cut off percentage which keep on rising every year. Some even jokingly ask when are we to see the cut off percentage crossing 100 to get admission in a high profile college.
In midst of all this comes the news of a Mumbai girl who has achieved the distinction of getting admission in the prestigious globally renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) without passing any board exams. The story of Malvika Raj Joshi, 17, shows that even without formal schooling, if one has talents, admission is there in prestigious institutes like MIT.
Malvika is a three-time medal winner (two silver and a bronze) at International Olympiad of Informatics or commonly known as Programming Olympiad and luckily for her, MIT accepts students who are medal winners at various Olympiads (maths, physics or computer). Malvika was in Class 7 at Dadar Parsee Youth Assembly School in Mumbai and doing exceedingly well in academics when her mother decided to pull her out of school. And the reason for pulling out of school was that the mother felt that Malvika will be happier to pursue her studies from home.
