In a recent circular the Human Resource Development ministry issued to all states/UTs, the ministry has instructed all schools to reduce the weight of schoolbags.
The circular says the weight of the schoolbags should be 1.5 kg for Classes I and II, 2-3 kg for Classes III and V, 4 kg for Classes VI and VII, 4.5 kg for Classes VIII and IX and 5 kg for Class X. Students should not be asked to bring additional books or extra material. All the states/UTs will soon issue instructions to all schools in their area.
The circular also says that in class 1 and 2 no homework can be given to the students. In class 1 and 2 only language and mathematics is to be taught. In class 3, 4 and 5 language, EVS and mathematics as prescribed by NCERT is to be taught.
