A week after Border Security Force (BSF) head constable Prem Sagar was beheaded by Pakistani intruders on the Line of Control (Loc) in Jammu and Kashmir, his wife received donations worth Rs 13.59 lakh from a portal ‘India’s Bravehearts’ or 'Bharat Ke Veer' launched by Union home ministry in collaboration with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.
The money was directly deposited into the bank account of Sagar’s wife.
Donations received through the website are over and above what the dependents of paramilitary personnel killed in action receive through central and state governments. Read more of this in a report by Rajesh Ahuja in Hindustan Times.....
The web site is www.bharatkeveer.gov.in. On the home it gives some guidelines if one wants to support this cause :
- You can donate directly to individual braveheart’s account (upto max of Rs 15 lakhs) or may donate to the “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus.
- To ensure maximum coverage, a cap of 15 lakhs is envisaged per braveheart and the donor would be alerted if the amount exceeds Rs 15 lakhs, so that they can choose to either decrease their contribution or divert part of the donation to another braveheart's account, or to the “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus.
- “Bharat Ke Veer” corpus would be managed by a commitee made up of eminent persons of repute and senior government officials, in equal number, who would decide to disburse the fund equitably to the braveheart's family on need basis.
