Seema Sardar from Patharbhanga Uccha Vidyalaya, Potka, 30km from Jamshedpur, had great fun painting animals on her school walls. So did Dipak Ravidas from Amaynagar Madhya Vidyalaya Ghatshila, 60km from the city.
Bureaucracy, often termed unimaginative, has initiated a vibrant step - tribal art on government-run schools in East Singhbhum - from Saturday.
In the unique initiative aimed both at reviving interest towards indigenous paintings among the new generation and making the walls of schools look colourful, East Singhbhum district administration on Saturday started training and encouraging students to paint Sohrai forms. Sohrai features motifs from wildlife and nature, symbolic representations and bold strokes. They are painted mostly by women tribal artists during winter harvest.
