Ekal Abhiyan in association with Vikas Bharti launched a Computer on Wheels in the presence of Padmashree Sri Ashok Bhagat, Sri Arun Khemka, Sri Arvind Singh, Chairman and Sri Phul Singh, Vice-Chairman, Jharkhand Academic Council, in Ranchi last year to spread computer literacy among rural and tribal children of Jharkhand.
The mobile Ekal computer lab has 12 Computers (Laptops) with sitting arrangements of 24 students. The Lab will cover two Ekal Villages everyday, and students of Ekal and other schools will take take training on computer skills. Ekal plans to launch such mobile computer labs in other states too.
President, Ekal Utthan Yojana, Sri Arun Khemka asserted, “Our motto is to make rural kids aware about the benefits of computer literacy. In the era of digitalization, computer knowledge has become mandatory to excel in any specific field.” He added, “the remarkable feature of this particular project is the pre-loaded programs which are designed by the students of Indian Institute of Technology – Bombay (IIT-B). Those candidates who will complete 30 days of computer training program in their respective villages will be awarded with the certificate that will be provided by IIT-B but it will be accredited with the Government of India.” The people associated with the project have decided to further widen the project, and TATA Foundation will collaborate with the project for expansion.
