Ekal Abhiyan’s global coordinator and one of the founders of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA has been felicitated by the Indian Consulate in Houston, USA, for his contribution towards the community and being actively associated with a mission that provides education to millions in tribal India
Consul General Anupam Ray in his address said that Shah has "personified the Indian ideal of service".
Shah shared his honour with the Indian-American community and said they have supported him in all his endeavours.
In his address Ramesh bhai said that he is deeply influenced by Swami Vivekananda's writings and asked for the people's blessings to continue working till his last breath.
Ramesh bhai is from village Gabat in Gujarat. He was awarded the 'Pravasi Bharatiya Samman' earlier in the year in Bangalore for his over 40 years of contribution in spreading awareness about the country around the world and working for the welfare of the Indian community ever since he moved to the US in 1970. He also established the Gujarati Samaj of Houston in 1978.
It may be mentioned that Ramesh bhai was part of the team that organised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand Madison Square reception in September 2014.
Shah has travelled across India, Europe and the US to create awareness about the Ekal movement and its activities. Ekal with its education programmes has its presence in 53000+ villages across India, in remote villages. To know more log on to www.ekal.org
