Government plans to increase area under chemical free farming in a big way. A 'cluster' based approach will be used and the aim is to develop 10,000 clusters, of 20 hectares each, across the country to promote organic farming. It is estimated that at present 8 lakh acres are under organic farming which is likely to rise to 10 lakh acres in next 2 years. 29 states have already identified over 7,500 clusters. It may be mentioned that Sikkim is the only state which is fully organic. Read details in an excellent report by Vishwa Mohan in TOI.
