566 Senior Citizens Home Maintained For Special Care Of Old Age People

  • Free of cost facilities provided to senior citizens under‘Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens’ (IPSrC), a component of ‘Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana’ (AVYAY) by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment

Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is implementing ‘Integrated Programme for Senior Citizens’ (IPSrC), a component of ‘Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana’ (AVYAY), under which grant-in-aid is provided to NGOs/ Voluntary Organizations (VOs) for running and maintenance of Senior Citizens Homes (old age homes), Continuous Care Homes, etc. Facilities like shelter, nutrition, medicare and recreation are provided free of cost to the indigent senior citizens living in such homes.

The details of the total number of Senior Citizens Home (Old Age Homes) maintained across the country, State/UT-wise including Chhattisgarh State is given at Annexure. In Bilaspur Parliamentary Constituency only one Sr Citizen home is working under IPSrC.

To include new projects under IPSrC, the Department invites applications for new projects in gap districts, as per the information received from the respective State/UT Govts. On the basis of recommendations of the respective State/UT Govt., and after receipt of the requisite documents, new projects are included under the Scheme.

For monitoring of the projects receiving grant-in-aid under IPSrC, the Department has set up a Project Monitoring Unit (PMU). The PMU coordinators visit these projects for assessment of their performance as per the scheme guidelines. In case a negative report is received from the PMU, the NGO running the project concerned is provided an opportunity to explain their position. The reply of the NGO is analyzed in the Department. Grant in Aid is stopped, if the reply is not found satisfactory.
