The agriculture ministry in consultation with the Niti Aayog has identified a set of nine marketing reforms to ensure remunerative prices to farmers for their produce by reducing intervention of middlemen. It may be mentioned that the Narendra Modi government had made its resolve to double farmers income by 2022, and these steps will help in achieving this target.
The nine point market reforms are :
1. Setting up private 'mandis'.
2. Single licence for traders applicable in the whole state.
3. Direct sale by producers to processing industries/exporters/bulk buyers.
4. Implementation of e-NAM in all states.
5. Exempt trees grown by farmers on private land from felling and transit regulation.
6. Liberalise land lease market.
7. Take fruits and vegetables out of APMC Act.
8. De-link provisions of compulsory requirement of shop/space for registration of traders.
9. Single point levy on agriculture produce.
