This is the story of a remote village in Jharkhand. To promote education among the girls residing there local village women committee selects an educated girl and a lane in the village is named after her.
Juri, the non-descript village some 150 km south of state capital Ranchi, has initiated this unique practice to promote girls’ education. The village, which has over 600 families, has no high school and children have to travel 3km to reach a high school and 30 km to go to a college. There is a single government middle school where 5 teachers teach over 300 students.
This is surely a very innovative move to recognise the local girls who are educated and will motivate others to go for education. Villages elsewhere can replicate this move.
