Northern Railway, as a pilot project plans to undertake a number of socio-economic activities around the Farrukhnagar railway station (near Gurugram) to benefit the rural communities located there.
The activities would include providing sports infrastructure for children along with career counselling, educational programmes and even tour of railway sheds, an official said. The project, which was started last week, chose Farrukhnagar due to its dense population. Officials said the social activities would be spread out across different fields, including sports, health, environment and on-the-spot training.
Northern railway has also been restoring old abandoned structures near the Farrukhnagar railway station to make it a ‘heritage’ station.
