Registrations For Ganga Quest 2021 Begin

UNESCO New Delhi, along with the National Mission for Clean Ganga and other partners, organized a hybrid event with school children and teachers to celebrate ‘World Water Day 2021’ on Monday. It included felicitating the winners of a water conservation awareness programme, and screening of their winning animation short films.

UNESCO launched this programme nation-wide last September for school children in India, in partnership with the National Mission for Clean Ganga, the United Schools Organization (USO), Water Digest and India based global animation major Toonz Media Group. Entitled “H2Ooooh! – Waterwise program for children of India”, this innovative initiative encouraged school students between the age of 6-14 years to submit story ideas for animated short films to raise awareness on water conservation and its sustainable use.

As many as 93 shortlisted students, including eight children with disabilities, underwent a training in basics of 2D animation including script writing, character sketching and storyboarding by Toonz Animation mentors as part of the programme. The students had been shortlisted after multiple screenings from over 17,000 participants from 43 schools across the country.

Ganga Quest 2021 Launched

Ganga Quest 2021, an an online competitive quiz organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and TREE Craze Foundation was also launched at the event.

Ganga Quest, a national online quiz on Ganga, rivers, and environment was first conceptualized in 2019 as an educational program to sensitize children and youth towards River Ganga to strengthen the Namami Gange program of Ministry of Jal Shakti. From 36000+ participants in 2019 to 1 million + participants in 2020, the enthusiasm for Ganga Quest has increased multi-fold in just 1 years’ time.

Ganga Quest is a competitive knowledge-building platform, an awareness initiative and scientific baseline determination exercise to assess the knowledge gaps and attitude orientation about Ganga and Rivers.

Ganga Quest is an international bilingual (Hindi and English) online quiz on Ganga being organized by National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), an authority under Government of India which implements ‘Namami Gange’ programme and TREE Craze Foundation (TCF), a not for profit organization committed to Ganga, Rivers, and Environment.

“Public participation is one of the prime focus areas of the Namami Gange Mission. This quiz will encourage everyone to learn more about our rivers and to respect them,” said Mr. Mishra, Director General, NMCG. Bhavna Badola, CEO Tree Craze Foundation gave a presentation about Ganga Quest 2021. She shared that the quiz can be taken in Hindi or English and this year it is open for international participants also.

Apart from engaging and creating awareness and knowledge among participants, Ganga Quest initiative aims at analyzing and evaluating the nature of participation and status of awareness among the participants. The targeted objectives are; Knowledge Building, Awareness Creation, Attitude Orientation, Knowledge Gap Assessment, and Baseline Determination. Its ultimate aim is to increase the public participation for ‘Namami Gange’ programme and to enhance ownership of children and youth for rivers and Ganga.
