A major boost to the drive towards increasing solar power availability in the country now the tariff has been quoted @Rs3/- per unit. From Rs18/- per unit in 2010-11 this is now one sixth. This is at par with the cost of coal fired generation which is about 3 to 5 Rs per unit. Compared to this the gas fired generation cost is 5.50 to 7 Rs per unit and the hydro power generation cost is 2.50 to 5.50 Rs per unit.
