From ages in India people have been doing philanthropy. Innumerable educational institutions, places of stay (dharamshalas), medical aid centres etc. have been made by contributions from the society. Even today, there are so many voluntary organisations engaged in such activities to help the needy.
Now, this has been officially confirmed too. A survey, World Giving Index 2016, done by Charities Aid Foundation shows India tops in terms of number of people helping out strangers, volunteering their time and giving money for charity.
Overall, 401 million people had helped a stranger last year which is up from 335m in 2014. More than 200 million donated money which is up from 184m in 2014 and 200m had volunteered time in 2015 which is also up from 157m in 2014.
