The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, in association with the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organized a National Convention of Gram Pradhans in Alaahabad, with the support of the Government of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.The objective of the National Convention was to rally Gram Pradhans of 1651 villages in 52 districts and 5 States situated along the banks of the river Ganga, to work together and make their villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) to meet the goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) as well as the Namami Gange programme.
Ms. Uma Bharti began the proceedings of the convention by reading out a message on the occasion from the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Excerpts from the Prime Minister’s Message were as below:
“It gives me immense pleasure that the representatives of all the Gram Panchayats situated along the banks of the river Ganga have assembled today at the Holy Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati – Allahabad – with the shared aim of making their villages Open Defecation Free. This beginning is an imperative to make the densely populated villages along the banks of the Ganga Swachh in true sense, to make our rivers pollution free, and to maintain the ecological balance in this area.
For all-round development of the nation, it is critically important that our health is sound, our mothers and sisters live with safety and dignity, and our environment is clean, safe and attuned to community-wide health. Becoming Open Defecation Free – ODF – is the first step in this direction. Keeping the river Ganga clean and pure is our collective responsibility.
By coming together like this on one platform, you will not only help make the dream of all villages along the Ganga becoming ODF, but also inspire villages along the banks of other rivers in the country, and ultimately, all of rural India, to become ODF and, in true sense of the word, Swachh.”
Ms. Uma Bharti explained the concept of Namami Ganga and appealed to all the Pradhans to clean up Ganga ji. She mentioned that besides ODF, solid and liquid waste management was also important and villages must be made swachh in a comprehensive sense.
गंगा तट पर स्थित ग्रामों के प्रधानों के राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन का इलाहाबाद में आयोजन
जल संसाधन, नदी विकास और गंगा संरक्षण एवं युवा मामले और खेल मंत्रालय के युवा मामले विभाग के सहयोग से पेयजल और स्वच्छता मंत्रालय ने आज उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार की सहायता से इलाहाबाद में ग्राम प्रधानों के राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन का आयोजन किया। इस राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य गंगा नदी के तट पर स्थित पांच राज्यों और 52 जिलों के 1651 ग्रामों के ग्राम प्रधानों को एक मंच पर लाना था ताकि वे स्वच्छ भारत अभियान (ग्रामीण) के साथ-साथ नमामि गंगे कार्यक्रम के उद्देश्यों को पूरा करने के लिए अपने गांव को खुले में शौच से मुक्त बनाने के अभियान में मिलकर कार्य कर सकें।
इस अवसर पर ग्रामीण विकास, पंचायती राज और पेयजल एवं स्वच्छता मंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र सिंह तोमर और जल संसाधन, नदी विकास और गंगा संरक्षण मंत्री सुश्री उमा भारती ने इलाहाबाद के कंपनी बाग में श्री चंद्रशेखर आजाद की प्रतिमा के समक्ष अपनी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। मंत्री महोदय ने ग्रामों को खुले में शौच से मुक्त बनाने और स्वच्छता की इस स्थिति को बनाए रखने के संदर्भ में सभी प्रधानों को स्वच्छता की शपथ भी दिलाई।
इस अवसर पर सुश्री उमा भारती ने प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के संदेश को पढ़ने के साथ सम्मेलन का शुभारंभ किया।
प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के संदेश को पढ़ते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि ग्रामों को खुले में शौच से मुक्त बनाने के सम्मिलित उद्देश्य के साथ गंगा नदी के तट पर स्थित ग्रामों के ग्राम पंचायतों के सभी प्रतिनिधियों के इलाहाबाद में गंगा, यमुना और सरस्वती के पवित्र संगम पर आज उपस्थित होने से अपार खुशी होने का अनुभव हो रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि गंगा किनारे के घनी आबादी वाले ग्रामों को स्वच्छ बनाना ही सही मायने में नदियों को प्रदूषण से मुक्त करना और इस क्षेत्र में पारिस्थितिकी संतुलन बनाए रखना इस सम्मेलन का उद्देश्य है।
