The strike called by resident doctors at AIIMS didn't deter the hospital's doctors from taking up a unique challenge on Friday - conducting three simultaneous transplants.

The family of an 18-year-old boy who was declared brain dead offered to donate his organs on Friday afternoon. By evening, his heart, liver, two kidneys, bones and the corneas were retrieved.

The doctors said Arjun, the only son of Ram Bahadur, had met with a road traffic accident and was admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre on Thursday. The Class XI student was declared brain dead on Friday, after which the trauma nurse coordinators and the neurosurgeons counselled his family to donate the organs.
