Teachers Day Special

On this Teachers Day Delhi government awarded 93 teachers and in this there were two teachers who were awarded under a special category which was started by Dy CM Manish Sisodia last year. This was to recognise the efforts of teachers who did exemplary work which was not the regular teaching job.

This year two such teachers have been awarded - one to a teacher who uses real-life experiences to help young minds think critically and the other to a head of a school who acted in time to save hundreds of children during the Tughlakabad gas leak.

The first special award went to Murari Jha who teaches social science in SV-3, RK Puram. He gave students communication skills to help them take that education forward to younger classes in a peer-to-peer model. Jha, a teacher for 10 years, is a native of Bihar. He has masters in history from DU and masters in elementary education from Tata Institute of Social Sciences. "I want to help students become critical thinkers and help them relate to social circumstances through essay exercises. The essays are the extension of the life they live. I fit the curriculum in a student's life, not them into a curriculum," said the 33-year-old.

"When the Tughlakabad gas leak happened, the teachers reached school early and realised there was something wrong in the air. The school head and her team acted quickly and evacuated all students averting an untoward incident," Sisodia said, while speaking about Manisha, the second winner in the specail category, of SKV Railway Colony in Tughlakabad.
