Former WB CS Appeals For Support To Friends Of Tribals Society

Sri Amit Kiran Deb, IAS (Retd.), Former Chief Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal makes an appeal for contributing to the Friends of Tribals Society (FTS), a constituent of Ekal Abhiyan.

It may be mentioned here that Ekal Abhiyan with its five fold education programmes of basic education, health care education, empowerment education, development education and value education has its presence in some 60,000 villages across the country. Ekal's basic education programme is a unique one providing support education in some 55,000 villages with just one teacher in the village for some 25-30 students in the age group of 6 and 14. It is not a formal school but helps in promoting literacy. It has been found that where ever Ekal is present the drop out rate in formal schools have dropped. The villagers are communicated the importance of literacy and the motivation towards education is provided through various methods based on 'learning while playing'. This methodology has helped in the village children taking interest in education.
