Gwalior Maheshwaris Decide Not To Use Plastic Disposals

The Maheshwari community in Gwalior has decided not to use plastic disposals in parties organised for marriages and other purposes. They have also declared the Maheswari Bhawan there as a 'non-plastic zone'.

Instead they will use pattal (plates made of leaves) and daunas (cups made of leaves).

This is a great step taken to help save our environment from the ill effects of plastic and thermocol disposals which we so openly use. In most cities, even in 'langars' we can see the use of such disposals. Even in villages not the use of disposals have increased.

On the other hand use of pattals and daunas are not only eco-friendly but also provide jobs to the poor in villages, who make these and come to nearby urban areas to sell.

Other people, specially the social organisations elsewhere too should follow this move of Gwalior Maheshwaris. Such small steps can act big to save the environment.

Prime Minister Modi's call to stop use of single-use plastic has touched everyone. Like the 'Swachh Bharat' movement, this will also be taken in all seriousness by all.
