Radio Jockey Helps Villagers Know Of Elephant Movement

In the eastern states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal we hear so much of the menace that elephants create in villages. Many a times there are casualties too. Sometimes, if accurate information on the movement of elephants is known, preventive action comes to great help.

One such effort by radio jockey Amalendu Mishra is note worthy. He is on air every day, advising residents of the state’s interiors about elephant movements. He tells listeners the locations where herds of elephants have been spotted and the direction in which they might be headed. This popular radio talk show called “Hamar Hathi Hamar Goth” (our elephant, our talk) broadcast by the Ambikapur station of the All India Radio is a godsend, to the villagers and Mishra their savior.
