If one has a will wonders can be created in no time. Here is a story of how in a matter of just few months Tirunelveli municipality in Tamil Nadu was able to segregate all its generated waste at source across households and establishments.
- Tirunelveli, which has around 1.6 lakh households, took up this challenge in April 2016.
- While biodegradable waste is collected every day, non-biodegradable waste is collected every Wednesday.
Campaigns though TV and local radio channels targeting housewives and roping in religious leaders and NGOs helped in achieving this feat.
