Absenteeism in Jharkhand Schools Reduces With Project 'Prayas'

The HRD ministry in Jharkhand had launched a project called 'Prayas' to tackle absenteeism in government schools in 2014. This has been implemented in 40,000 villages and is showing good results. Most schools have shown significant improvement in the attendance of students. Under the scheme if a student is absent for 3 consecutive days the teacher along with some volunteers visit the family and find reasons and convince the parents on importance of education. A system of tying different coloured ribbons for students, based on the days they are present, has also been implemented at some places.
