With a view to provide educational opportunities to students with disabilities, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) has been implementing various scholarship schemes for their empowerment through education.
There are 3 schems -
1) Pre-matric scholarships to cover Class IX and X. 46000 scholarships will be given each year. In this scheme a monthly maintenance allowance of Rs350/- for day scholars and Rs600/- for hosteliers + book grant, transport and reader allowance etc. The annual income ceiling for this scheme is Rs2 lakh.
2) Post-matric scholarships to cover Class XI to Master's Degree or Diploma level. 16650 scholarships will be given each year. Allowances in this scheme varies from Rs400-550 for day scholars and Rs650-1200 for hosteliers + tuition fees (upto 1.5 lakh per year) + other allowance. The annual income ceiling for this scheme is Rs2.5 lakh.
3) Scholarship for Top Class Education to cover Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in 240 notified institutes of excellence. 160 scholarships will be given each year. In this scheme the monthly allowance is Rs1500 for day scholars, Rs3000 for hosteliers + other allowance (upto 2 lakh per year). The annual income ceiling for this scheme is Rs6 lakh.
All the above scholarship schemes are applicable to students with disabilities with more than 40% disabilities and having a disability certificate to this effect issued by a competent medical authority.
