More Power Means More Responsibility

Bharat Mahan

This statement may not be understood by many people who are intoxicated with the might they have, the muscle power they have, the financial power they have or the brute force they may be having. It was Lord Acton, who had written that “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. In general, the more successful you are in life, the greater becomes your power and influence in all respects, but then your responsibility also becomes more and more. If God has given you the potential and ability to do something, make sure that you do it for the good of others as your responsibility.

When you drive in a very powerful big car like BMW or Audi which has an acceleration of probably from 0 to 100 kilometres in just a couple of seconds, obviously you have to be more responsible and careful in your driving to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists,  rickshaw wallahs and even the scooterists and those driving smaller cars. So when you sit on the driver seat of a very powerful car, it should instantly fill your mind with much more responsibility compared to those who are driving smaller cars, scooters or rickshaws. You have the power to cause much bigger mayhem and disaster particularly when you are driving on city roads. You have to ensure that you exercise full restraint while driving so that no innocent person on the road gets injured or killed because of your carelessness. The example of some roadside people getting killed during middle of the night when the famous Salman Khan was driving is well known to everybody. Obviously it was bad behaviour and rash car driving by Salman Khan or his driver.

Similarly as a responsible citizen of this world don't you think that the more powerful nations have more responsibility towards all the problems being faced by this humanity. You must have seen a recent statement by Mr Trump that why United States of America should come  all the way 7000 kilometres away to Afghanistan to fight terrorism. Why can't the other nearby countries like even India should also take some responsibility to fight terrorism in Afghanistan. America can be considered the most powerful nation  today. So definitely, their responsibility is also much more. When United States of America says something, the whole world listens. India is also an emerging global power today under the leadership of Mr Modi. Our philosophy of helping Afghanistan only to the extent of development needs to be revised. However, india has been sending peacekeeping forces all over the world under the flag of United Nations. So india has been demonstrating its responsibility in assuring peace in various parts of the world.

More power means more responsibility. This statement is applicable in all spheres of our life. Who has more responsibility in a college or a university? Obviously, the director, the principal or the vice chancellor of the university or director of the college compared to a clerk or a peon or even a professor. The head of the organization is all powerful. Similarly, in an industry, the CEO of the company is much more poweful and therefore responsible for the welfare of the employees as well as profitability of the organisation. Maximum power for taking all the decisions lies with the CEO or the CMD of the company. So the more powerful you are, the more responsibility comes on your shoulders and you should always demonstrate that. In a village, the Sarpanch (the village head) has all the authority and therefore is the most powerful and therefore he/she should be more responsible also.

Similarly the rich people staying in a society have bigger responsibility to help the destitute and the poor people to help them. When social events or religious festivals are celebrated in India, the expectations of the organisers are much more from the rich people of the mohalla for donations. The policeman has been entrusted with a lot of powers by virtue of his uniform so he dons much bigger responsibility in his area of duty to maintain law and order. His personal behavior is also expected to be above board. He is expected to demonstrate moral conduct and examplary behavior.

The people of India reposed faith in the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi ji in the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 with a much bigger majority in the Loksabha. This has added much more responsibility on the shoulders of Modi ji to perform at faster pace for the good of the nation. It is the people of India who have made Modi ji much more powerful. One hundred thirty crores of Indians today look up to Modi ji to fulfill their dreams and definitely he is in a position to influence our present and decide our future in a New India. As per Times Now he is the most powerful man on the earth. So his responsibility also increases many more times. The expectations of Indians from Modi ji are much more probably compared to anyother PM of India in the past. We all wish and hope that he stands up to their expectations.
