On the occasion of Bhai Dooj, the National Urban Livelihood Mission gifted sewing machines to 130 women to help them earn. The machines were distributed at a function organised by the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee at Birsa Munda Town Hall in Sidhgora on Saturday.
"I learnt stitching around five years ago but could not afford a machine because of family expenses. But now that I have one, I will start stitching blouses and other garments. I will financially help my husband who is suffering from blood cancer," said Girija Devi (44), a resident of Babudih.
