The gesture of kindness displayed by a courageous family from Karnal, who came forward to donate the organs of their deceased loved one, gave fresh lease of life to three end stage organ failure patients and, ‘gift of sight’ to another two, thereby impacting five lives in all at the PGI, Chandigarh.
The unfortunate event took place on the intervening night of July 2-3 when Kamal Kumar from Biani village in Karnal district was on his way back home on his motorcycle after his night duty when he was hit by an unknown speeding vehicle. The accident led to fatal head injury, leaving Kamal unconscious at the accident site.
At PGI after a team of doctors declared Kamal as brain dead, his father gave consent for organ donation to needy.
