This is the story of a park in Mehrauli area of New Delhi, which was being used as dumping ground for waste. The initiative of a woman staying near the park changed all this. And now the park has got rid of the dumped waste. Such voluntary efforts by individuals can bring excellent results. In the last 15 years of living at Qutub Green Apartments in Mehrauli, 45-year-old Sandhya Singhal has not visited the park opposite her house. Nor have her two children. After all, the “park” has been a dumping ground for almost 20 years now, with pigs running amok and the pungent smell polluting the air.
However, all this changed September 21 onwards — when Singhal, with the help of women living in and around the complex, took up the task of cleaning the dump, which is part of the Mehrauli Archaeological Park.
