Mobile Computer Lab, Ekal On Wheels

To take digital literacy to remote villages of Bharat, a unique programme was launched by Ekal Abhiyan in 2016. Mobile vans have been transformed in computer labs. These vans have around 15 work stations, with a trainer. Pre loaded self learning software are provided. These vans are solar powered.

Some twenty students can be accommodated in the mobile lab. These students, from remote and tribal village, get first hand exposure to the digital world.

The programmes on the computers are registered with Spoken Tutorial project of IIT - Mumbai. Even certificates are awarded to successful trainees.

As per data collected 4,816 youth were trained in the year 2018-19. In the last three years a total of 8,356 youth have been trained. 

As on 31st March 2019, Ekal was operating 20 Ekal on Wheels, in different parts of the country. Out of these ten were added last year only. This year, the plans are to add another seven vans.
