In this period of Corona crisis, people are promoting their hobby and skills. People say that in these times they have got a chance to fulfill their suppressed desires.
This is the story of one such person, a resident of Ranchi, Dr Vibhuti Bhusan Roy. He has got a collection of some 2000 match boxes of 50 different countries, collected in the last 41 years. Apart from match boxes he has a collection of postage stamps released in 50 countries on Mahatma Gandhi; defective currency notes and special coins.
Roy says that from early childhood he used to collect match boxes for playing games. Later he came across an interview of a hotel manager Rusi Sagar which talked of this hobby of collection of match boxes. With the motivation of Rusi Sagar, he started collection of match boxes.
In his collection, Roy has the oldest match box of 1949. This match box is just one and a quarter inch. In his collection he has match boxes of different shapes and sizes from different countries. The biggest match box in his collection is of Japan. In the Indian collection he has divided the match boxes in more than 20 themes, like film stars, national symbols, cars, fruits, flowers, fish, horse, sports, cars etc.
Roy recounts his visit to Vaishno Devi in 2002, from where he collected 22 match boxes of different states from the dust bin outside the temple.
In his free time during Corona, Roy has prepared 18 albums of his collection.
