Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of 'Multimodal Terminal' at Sahibganj in Jharkhand today. To be constructed at a cost of 280 cr, the cargo handling capacity here will be 22.4 lakh tonnes per year. The facilities at this terminal include berthing for two vessels, stockyard, conveyor belt and barge loaders. It is expected that by June 2019 this would be ready.
It may be mentioned that Sahibganj is on National Waterway - 1 (Allahabad-Varanasi-Sahibganj-Haldia). The total cost of this 1620 km project is 5369 cr. Besides the multimodal terminal at Sahibganj, such terminals will also be set up at Varanasi, Haldia and IWT terminals at Ghazipur and Kalughat. The project is likely to create employment for some one and a half lakh.
The Prime Minister will also the foundation stone of Sahibganj-Manihari 4-lane bridge over river Ganga, dedicate the 311 km Govindpur-Sahibganj highway to nation.
